This week we're going to talk about our money story, why it matters, and how you can change it. At the end of the blog, I have shared a tool to help you know your money story and then change it to move forward in a different, better, healthier direction.
Often, we're so busy with other things that money becomes an underlying aspect of our lives. And we don’t spend the time to piece together our thoughts about it. There are times when we fall into these slumps of spending without control, and later feel bad for a bit, move on, and make the same mistakes again. But to avoid this pattern, it is important to set some parameters for spending habits so that you don’t end up in a self-sabotaging pattern. If you have a partner, then transparently communicating and planning expenses is important. One of the reasons why we tend to fall into these patterns is scarcity. We feel like we’re lacking something and want to feel good by having it and fall into an uncontrollable “treat yourself to feel good” pattern.
We’re all a work in progress. We should never stop setting goals, believing in ourselves, growing, and learning. Bring the right people into your lives to teach you so you can learn and grow. It is normal to want more abundance in your life but at the same time learn to always be grateful for what you currently have. This will help you get out of the scarcity mindset and make you feel content with your life. Continue to set goals, create a plan, and take action to gain that abundance. There is so much we can do to grow once we get out of our way.
We are spiritual beings in a physical body. The universe will work with you to help you achieve your goals when you start incorporating mindset shifts around money matters and daily habits. The next important step is finding an expert to work with you to achieve your goals. We are often nervous or scared when we try to do something new, especially in money matters when we’ve never been the ones doing financial planning for ourselves. But we only get in the way of our progress and stability when we keep saying “I can’t”. We change the narrative and tell ourselves “I can”, the pieces will start falling into place and we start noticing a positive direction in our lives. This is important when it comes to our money story. We don’t realize how much negative inner chatter weaves into our daily actions until we flip the switch and completely stop it. It makes a massive difference and it is a long process.
Here is the tool as promised. You can start this process by imagining what a perfect day in your life looks like and writing it down. So write as if money was not an issue. Think about the money you want to earn. Think about where you are. Think about who you're with. What are you eating? How does it smell? How does it taste? How does it feel? What are the colors around you? How big are you smiling? What are you drinking? What are you eating? Where are you in the world? Think about everything. Think about the legacy that you want to leave. Think about the gifts that you want to give to the people that you love in your life. The money you want to leave for your children. The money that you want to have, the money that you do have, and anything else that would make this your perfect day. What's important with this exercise is that you write in the present tense.
Don't move until you've really spent time with this step and then you can move to the next step. Remember that life has its ebbs and flows. Your money story does not stay the same and it shouldn’t stay the same. Be kind to yourself.
So, look at your past money story and create a new one. Reach out to the right people to help you grow. Remember, you are worthy, you are loved, and you are important.
